Boom
Retailers will still inflate the price
Of course but still…
Thankfully official stores will take care of this
After the initial wave it’ll be easily purchaseable.
That’s just the flash sales that Xioami does right after launch. Stores have steady stock a month or two after launch.
It’s not a flagship at all. It only has a flagship processor. There are lots of other flagship components needed for it to be “flagship”. Note 9 is a flagship.
Anyway, since this is a xiaomi circlejerk I expect massive amount of downvotes. lol
Nice one. Is Gsmarena part of the Xiaomi circle jerk?
Well, you’re not wrong. The Lenovo Z2+ (or ZUK Z2) has a SD821 and cost the equivalent of $200 in my country as of 2017, but apparently, unless you rooted and installed a custom ROM, the all-round experience was garbage – it was slower than a Redmi Note 4 apparently.
I believe a flagship should provide the absolute best experience by the company. The same CPU as the Note 9 doesn’t make it a flagship. The same battery capacity doesn’t make it a flagship. The same screen doesn’t make it a flagship. Nor does the same camera make it a flagship. It’s the combination of all these things that make one, and that’s the Mi Mix series and the Mi 8 for Xiaomi.
Yup, Mi8 and Mi Mix’$’ are “flagship” phones by xiaomi. Rest are for budget markets and are budget devices. They have cut corners on those devices.
I’ll still reserve judgement on it (though I do plan on buying it when it goes on sale aug 29). We had recently gone on a holiday with my wife’s OP6 and me having the Galaxy s7 edge. All the articles I had read suggested that the OP6 was more than a match for the latest flagships. We took a few photos of the same scenes, and I have to say, it is not even close. The s7 photo had better colours, was sharper and way more detail. The OP6 photo by itself wasn’t bad, but its only when you compare that you notice the shortcomings.
I did sell the s7edge as there were other elements that were unpalatable to me (microUSB, lag, 32GB storage). I’m currently managing with my mi Max 2. If I do manage to get a Poco F1 during the sale, I hope to post a few comparison shots with the OP6
Most probably. Xiaomi may have paid them to write it. lol
What makes a flagship ? Only the soc? People keep calling the OnePlus killer, but one Plus is a more beautiful well crafted device, better version and implementation of Android.
It’s a good midrange. With great CPU and GPU power.
Nothing more.
OnePlus also costs 200 $more
But the OnePlus fanboys are the biggest sheep’s anyway
Don’t know if they are sheep’s, I don’t have one.
Well I get the whole better materials for design and AMOLED screen may have made the price higher than the Poco, but by no means are the Poco and the One plus flagships IMO. There just seems to be a couple compromise made that makes it not a very well rounded phone compared to higher priced phones.
Lackluster cameras and lack of waterproofing or sometimes NFC are my biggest reasons why I find it hard to believe that any flagship killer is hardly a killer.
China and India don’t use HCE payments so they cut corners here.
To be fair, the s7 edge camera is absolutely stunning. Samsung seems to be doing really well in the camera department the last few years. I’ve seen photos made with the new note and they’re stunning. Probably gonna pick it up when I can renew next month, just for the camera alone.
Still dont know if I am happy that I bought mi8 a week ago or not. … EU based tho
When you say paid you mean given gsmarena free handsets…
You should be happy I reckon.
Nope, after this RN5 rollback hard brick, I’m done with this company
Edit: I’m not sure why you guys are coming to the defense of a company that made software that causes phones to hard brick.
do you understand that this feature literally causes your phone to never function ever again. It also got rolled out without any warning to users. I can’t believe that people are actually defending this.
I can confirm. I had a ZUK Z2 and it was painfully slow compared to my following purchase, a redmi note 4x. Apparently the hard drive they use is very slow.
The thing is, they might be selling it at a loss or at a very low profit to get the market share at first. Doesn’t mean it will keep this price for future generation phones.
You are completely missing the point that Xiaomi rolled out the most anti-consumer feature in existence over auto update without warning.
No NFC, no flagship. Stupid marketing.
Also the word flagship just means a single brand’s best phone…
It’s like comparing the flagship of the Netherlands with that of Switzerland… (they have none, since they don’t have an actual ocean.)
I like the Xiaomi brand but thinking these phones are even remotely close to other flagships is just hogwash.
Come with the downvotes because people here are obvious ultra fanboys… same whenever you say something bad about an iPhone in the apple subreddit.
It’s no secret that Xiaomi has to cut corners somewhere to keep the price low. I’d say those futures are pretty unimportant for the majority of users. Yeah, it’s good to know your phone has waterproofing but it’s not essential in any way. Most people don’t go swimming with their phones.
When it comes to the Pocophone F1 it looks like the camera isn’t even “lackluster”.
It’s not a flagship. It’s a flagship killer. You can call it a toaster if you want. The point being that Poco is a very powerful smartphone and an unprecedented value for money.
Xiaomi should release all theis products in Android One version too
That’s real great but you’re sidestepping my point. Why would you put a feature on your phone that completely disables the phone with no way of returning it to regular function?
That is an unjustifiable level of incompetence.
I mean I am but hate that it doesn’t have 3.5 mm jack.
I am using Z2 Plus (64 GB). Bought for around $150 during one of Amazon India’s clearance sales last year. Installed AEX (AOSP Extended) on day 1, so I can’t comment on stock firmware performance. But it’s miles ahead of Redmi Note 4 in terms of pure performance (CPU/GPU/EMMC). The reviews for this device confuse me sometimes, I used both Note 4 and Z2 Plus, and I am yet to face any of the issues mentioned in most negative reviews. Maybe the hardware issues were corrected in later hardware revisions.
They poorly implemented it but it still was under the order of google, every manufacturer has to do so.
I am seeing many arguments arguing that by missing a few features it stops being a flagship. However I also see many phones that fall in the flagship category and also lack fairly important features such as the 3.5 jack, stereo speakers, micro sd slot, and even the big battery could be argued in its favor as it is one of the selling points samsung is using for the note 9… All of which this phone does have. It does not have nfc or an amoled qhd screen, and by all means it is not a fully featured flagship but yet again many actual so called flagships aren’t either. The importance amoled or nfc has to the end user is a matter of preference and just like this phone might be missing features some people want, other flagships miss features other people want which this phone DOES have. So can we really say it isn’t a flagship? Because if so, other than the Note 9 and a few other phones, no other phones can really fall under this category. The real distinction between this phone and the ones from other brands is how packed the phone is for the price tag and how groundbreaking this is.
I own a galaxy s8 and previously owned a OnePlus 3 so I have no bias towards xiaomi but I feel the poco f1 hasn’t been given enough credit in some of these posts
If that’s the case, then it’s not that great value anymore
How much did you pay for it, this will be around 280/300€
Well I paid 470e from a European reseller with 2y warranty. Also its not going to be 300e in EU I am certain.
I’m FAR from being in a xiaomi circlejerk but please do explain why it can’t be a flagship, lmao.
The sound quality and the lack of nfc is probably its weakest point – and that still wouldn’t justify it being less than a flagship device. In fact, it has MORE features than a flagship device. It has an an sd card slot for starters. It has a 3.5mm jack. It has a bigger battery than most flagship devices. Camera is actually on par with its competition. Build quality is pretty much as good as their other flagship devices.
Define what “flagship” device means to you because to me, it seems like you’re coping pretty hard that xiaomi undercut the entire top segment with this device.
Yeah I just bought the Mi 8 a week ago as well, and the thought of this phone being cheaper, with a larger battery and a headphone jack … I do feel slightly remorseful, but the Mi 8 is still amazing for the cost, so I’ll try to focus on the poco potentially creating competition in the cheaper flagship phone bracket, so that next time I need to upgrade there are even better phones available at those pricepoints.
Mi8 is definitely better. Just have a second look, then be happy 🙂
Pocophone has plastic back, no AMOLED, and other things that aren’t that great.
Did you flash it or are you using MIUI?
If you buy from AliExpress Im pretty sure it will be close to that
Stock firmware was bloated as hell.
I received it with unlocked bootloader and global stable Rom on it.
Well you might be right. But not worth the risk of paying customs fees and tax. Also I get 2 y store warranty.
Yes also I was going too buy a mi8 se and I read review on GSMarena that is has bad amp for the headphones…that lead me to buying mi8.
Amen to that
It could even bend like the iPhone 6 🙂
Like /u/persoyal said…not Xiaomi’s choice.
So boycotting them because of ARB…well you may as well boycott Android because you’re not getting away from it.
If you don’t have one then how do you know that
>one Plus is a more beautiful well crafted device, better version and implementation of Android.
Baseless opinions are utterly useless.
ZUK Z2 only cost $250 with Snapdragon 820.
Just got the mi8 2 weeks ago and I feel great about it.
Love the smaller size the better camera and premium build.
Time will tell.
Not really a ‘flagship’.
A phone with flagship specifications. Yes. And the compromises it makes are VERY justified for the price of admission.
But calling it a flagship would be erroneous.
Well, for example with Mi Max 3 initial reseller prices were about $100 above Xiaomi’s own launch prices but started to come down soon after.
You made the right choice. Mi 8 is a whole another class of device.
The Poco has \*comparable\* specs, but also makes several compromises to retail at that frankly unbelievable price point.
You got a great deal. Enjoy your new purchase 🙂
You’re right it’s not their choice whether or not to Implement ARB however, it WAS COMPLETELY their choice to implement it in such a way that causes phones to HARD BRICK BEYOND REPAIR.
Too bad for future generation, thankfully we can enjoy the good prices!
P.S: Fuck the fanboys who downvoted me. Your downvotes ain’t gonna turn your precious device into a flagship. 😉
err irrelevant?
Relax. Downvotes make you stronger in the long run.
Mi series never had big battery. Mi8 is the biggest battery in Mi series , ever.
3,400 amph is a big ass battery ffs how can anyone complain about it
It’s definitely not the case
