That’s the nice thing about accidentally becoming a Xiaomi phone collector. I’d got quite a few before I reached the local price of Galaxy s8 🙂
From the price there, you can get even Mi Air 13 and MIX 2 for the price, but we’re in other countries have to pay more for the importer and take a risk with support. Keep in mind that Apple also provides with better iOS environment, supports for foreign languages and has a batter built quality and durability over MIX 2.
But mix2 alone is $700 right?
According to the picture it’s only about $505. Chinese prices not imported prices
I guess you are right.
That black thing on top of the iphone x is so stupid, it breaks the look of the phone
>but muh dual cameras!
All I’m saying is the two ‘loops’ (what are they called?) around the cameras and speaker were unnecessary, they could have used a black bar like the Mix but at the top
Also they removed the fingerprint sensor because they didn’t want to touch the apple logo. Gives you an idea of what really matters to iphone users…
So because you’re locked in you’ll buy that expensive phone that adds hardly anything over current phones (iPhones included)?
I’m not saying it’s a bad phone, but it’s got a lousy price/benefits ratio. I see nothing that justifies that price.
NICE
I’m not a phone person in general, they’re just simple gadgets for me so I ‘dislike’ the iPhone as much as any other flagship. I just don’t see the value in those things, especially design isn’t a motivator for me (the phone gets covered up in a case anyways).
I don’t see use cases where a faster soc is a gain (unlike more memory) and wireless charging can be added to any phone for what, 5$ with a kit from Alieexpress?
The only thing that’s worthwhile to me is better water resistance.
Even $350 is an amount that I wouldn’t pay to ‘upgrade’. I only replace my phone when it’s becoming useless (replaced my N4 only because of hardware issue’s).
I honestly don’t know what you people do with your phones that would justify getting those expensive things. I’d love to hear a use-case for them.
MI mix has a better looking bezel anyway.
They use their phones a lot and what you see as a tiny improvement may be valuable to them because of how much they use their phones. The price differential may be relatively minor given their lifestyle and earnings, especially since used iPhones can be sold for quite a bit.
Or they don’t like rear fingerprint sensors on the back of the camera and—just like they say—feel that facial recognition is a better and more secure solution.
Maybe for some, but from personal experience (friends/family) I can say that most usage is limited to browsing the net, using social media (Instagram & whatnot) and the occasional picture & snapchat and maybe a game for the kid. All of which can be done on any recent phone.
That’s both iPhones & androids btw. Again, i’m not having a dig at iPhones, I’m trying to understand why people spend so much money on the damned things in general, and asking friends/family why they upgraded only results in vague answers (except for the niece that dropped her phone in the toilet. Don’t ask).
Do you also ask them why they don’t have the most basic car for their needs? The most basic clothing, shoes, sports equipment, computers, TVs, appliances, houses, etc. for their needs? They obviously feel it represents good value, and that researching other devices that the might (or might not) be happy with represents bad value.
You’re deflecting away from the question I asked. What use-cases justify the expense of flagship phones. Is there a use-case I’m missing? Something I could do with the damned things I hadn’t considered. If there isn’t, just plainly state so. It’s not my money so it doesn’t affect me. It just confuses me.²
I’m not deflecting anything, and I’ve told you reasons why. And then I asked why you’re so curious about phones and not other things people spend money on.
Here are some more reasons, as well as reasons made more explicit:
– NFC and Apple pay
– wireless charging out of the box and no bulky or ugly add ons
– sunk costs in terms of apps and things like face time
– top notch support and lots of apple stores
– great resale value
– years and years of iOS updates and support
– great cameras
– when buying a name brand you know it’s going to work, so you don’t have to worry about it or do research
– gaming, VR, and augmented reality all use processing power
Those answers aren’t rocket science. So now that I’ve answered, please answer my question on whether you ask about the cars people drive, etc.
Let’s get real… It is fanboyism… the Xiaomi fanboys are out in full force!
MacBook & iPhone owner here. Literally the only thing stopping me from going all in on Xiaomi is the integration between my two devices. I wish Xiaomi developed their own OS that worked well between devices!
FFS, again, I’m not asking about Android vs iPhone. I’m asking about iPhone SE vs iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy J3 vs Note 8.
What does the iPhone X do that an SE can’t that justifies spending 3 to 4 times the price. I’m talking about what you can actually **do** with them that you couldn’t do with the cheaper ones.
The iPhone vs Android discussion is pointless and totally irrelevant.
>on the back of the camera
They could have placed it elsewhere, not everybody is as dumb as samsung
>just like they say
And you believe them, the same idiots who said nobody would want a phone with a screen over 4 inches or a mouse with more than one button and still sell a highend phone with a 720p screen yet call it “retina”
>facial recognition is a better and more secure solution
Bull-*shit!*, how come no mil-spec security system uses face scans? because those are easy as hell to fool/hack
And Nexus already had this feature in 2012, yet another thing apple copies but takes years to do so
Sorry, back of the phone. Almost everyone has theirs on either the back of the phone or the front. Unless you count Sony, who actually have no fingerprint sensors in the US because of a blocking deal preventing them from using their side sensor.
Yeah, not like apple changed directions and introduced a larger phone when it was clear lots of people wanted one, right? And not like their smaller phones were poor sellers, either. And do you expect apple to suddenly stop calling their displays “retina” just because other have surpassed them? How does that make sense?
It seems pretty clear you haven’t read anything about how Apple is doing their facial recognition. Did the Nexus you’re talking about use a system of 30,000 IR dots to map faces?
Well, we’ll see how it plays out. Fingerprint sensors tend not to work so well with wet or dirty hands, and if an iPhone unlocks as soon as people are actually looking at their screen, there would seem to be no big disadvantage.
true that
