Correct.
Less than 24h ago I told my buddies at uni “give them 20 yrs and Xiaomi will dominate the smartphone market”. I think I overestimated that number grossly!
Profit margins are far smaller on the Xiaomi front than at Apple.
And yet, the stock price is still so low 😀
Only if you consider hardware.
But the real treasure is in the virtual world and software.
I think they have a 5% profit limit policy
As long as it keeps getting me impressive cheap tech then bring it on! Viva Xiaomi!
Selling dirty cheap mibands vs $400+ watches …
This is for wearabless. And I don’t know how long can Xiaomi make these devices for bottom prices. They keep saying that the income will come from SW. But how and when?
It’s not important for me, or well it is. In the way that I like the lower prices a lot.
Ads on the phone, tv and such.
Yeah but those will be purged by power users
As long as it brings down competitor pricing. No way am I paying for a $1000+ flagship phone. Especially when my $300 Poco uses the same chipset. To be fair there is much to improve upon on the Poco but the Mi8 hits the nail on the head. $500 is very reasonable for a flagship, and nowhere near Apple/Samsung territory.
As a super happy Poco user of 2 Months, what does the Mi8 do better? I love the fact the Poco has a solid dev community, I get to play with a variety of different ROMS. I have been using AOSPExtended for over a month and its buttery smooth as Day 1, and the camera is incredible. What more do I need?
I see a lot of the older and casual crowd getting into Xiaomi so I don’t think they will be the ones swapping out roms and removing ads and bloatware. Especially in my country where a Xiaomi phones are gaining traction as buying power is low and not everyone has the funds for a new Galaxy S9
Likewise!
youtube wasnt always a goldmine either according to this https://www.quora.com/How-does-Google-earn-money-from-YouTube
I’m not surprised. My Amazfit Bip is fantastic – I would almost argue it’s better than the Apple Watch in some regards which is crazy for how much I paid for it
Xiaomi is the company which focused on budget phones. Few years ago all other manufacturers ignored budget phones (Samsung, HTC, apple etc), even if they did release budget phones, they wouldn’t update the software or the hardware will be a huge cutback making the phone lag like hell.
Xiaomi changed this, both with phone and now with sports bands
Fitbit is overpriced as hell (my friend broke his and bought mi band 3, says the Fitbit was better but the price:performance of mi band 3 is amazing and regrets buying Fitbit )
Let’s not get carried away. I have an Amazfit Pace, but even if I ware 3 of them in my wrist, it wouldn’t be as good as Apple Watch. The software had minimum changes in terms of watchfaces in 1.5 years. I wrote to them to make some with sunrise/sunset, moon phase, and other watch “complications” … but nothing of that sort seems to come out way. They ARE working on the sports features, though.
To think someone can do this with mechanical engineering, and they can’t even code in a few extra lines, makes me sad.

That’s why I said in some regards. Like sleep tracking, which doesn’t exist on the Apple Watch
Oh, absolutely… In some regards. But even sleep tracking was bad compared to my old Alcatel WatchGo. Idk if it’s better now, stopped tracking it a while ago.
Has an AMOLED panel, better cameras, better gps system.
It is nothing more that “you need” but its nice to have. Altough before I made the purchase I was thinking of getting the Mi8 because $100-200 is not that big of a deal to me but the smaller battery killed me. I can do without the headphone jack but I need my phone to last all day which the Pocophone happily does.
i have a 200$ redmi 5 plus and this also has a 4ah battery the difference between a 3000 and 4000mah on a phone is huge lasts a full day at this point i don’t even care for fast charging because most of us have multiple devices and you easily get 3 hours of time at night to charge.
not saying fast charging is not useful but at 4ah the lack of it is certainly not a pain.
mi bands are great though not to mention light weight
ofcourse the stock price won’t go up unless they can get a 50 percent growth rate i imagine they will get back to the ipo level when they surpass apple in volume of phone shipments. it is sad though xiaomi has the biggest iot platform with more connected products than almost apple, amazon and google combined. and they are innovative as well even if they sometimes blatantly rip off.
