When OnePlus launched the first phone, flagship killer used to mean that almost flagship level features for half the price. Even then it could barely compete when it came to the premium features which flagships only provided. e.g. – wireless charging.
Now Xiaomi has launched a phone that’s not only priced much lower than the flagships but also delivers much much more than the flagships in terms of literally everything.
Thanks Xiaomi for keeping the competition alive.
It’s priced lower because flagships are crazy expensive now. IMO flagship killers shouldn’t cost more than 400 bucks and the Mi 10 Ultra is just a really good phone.
Flagship killer = flagship performance SoC in a phone with mid range build/specs for 3-500$.
Mi 10 Ultra is a good phone but you pay for it what you would for a full flagship just a couple years back, and it is still held back by MIUI just like Poco F2 Pro and K30 Ultra.
First thing the price difference between a Xiaomi flagship and the rest has narrowed I think , but in return Xiaomi has gone a step further in features and refinement. Partly it’s due to Samsung not being as innovative as before, it’s now Xiaomi and to a lesser extent OnePlus.
Personally, I like MIUI 12. Also, people are importing this phone instead of going for flagships.
Not to mention, as of today, except for Pixel phones, no other phone (incl. OnePlus) offer a stock Android experience.
Here I am talking about a flagship killer of 2020 not a flagship killer of 2014. What you are suggesting will be known as a midrange killer at present which includes the likes of Nord.
Xiaomi becoming an established brand name drives the cost up. You could buy 3 pocos for a Pixel iirc, I think it’s fair that they price it a bit higher this time around to stay competitive when the Samsung/Apple flagships are >$1000. They’ve earned it.
Also we have to thank Omnivision and the Chinese screen maker that have really increased the quality of their products, once Mediatek catches up with Qualcomm I think the flagship killers will return at reasonable prices
Xiaomi is an well established brand which sells more phones than Samsung in SE Asia.
The Covid-19 ban on Chinese phones can change the scenario though.
They are showing how the reputed companies are ripping us off. And the fact that you consider the price to be reasonable proves my point.
AMD/Samsung will catch up sooner than Mediatek though when it comes to flagship chipsets IMO.
Also IMO, Mediatek Dimension is a good flagship chipset.
Exactly. They are providing much more advanced features (maybe worth $1700 in Samsung currency) for a much lesser price.
I think tech should rightfully become more expensive over time as they get more powerful. I’m fine with the 10 Ultra being their premium phone and the Poco F2 Pro being the flagship killer of this generation. Poco’s sub-$400 price tag is still lower than the OP7P and is a whole lot more phone.
Anyone outraged that the Ultra isn’t $400 are being metaphorical choosing beggars. It’s like begging Toyota to create a clone of a Lamborghini with the same internals but to sell for the price of a Prius. Get real, and find a new hobby other than fiending gsmarena comments sections complaining about how expensive phones are
Until they release it out of China no. It’s not a flagship killer. It will cost similar to other flagships when launched internationally. We can look at the case of mi 10 itself, without some flagship features it costs a lot. And also the software experience is miles away from flagship level. Even the Chinese oxygen os and Samsung’s one ui provides a superior experience and things like monthly security updates etc makes a phone flagship. If i had that kind of money i would go for a tier one brand with good after sale service and resale value.
Xiaomi is a real value for money at budget and midrange segment.
So well said! At the moment can’t even Google Pay😆
I’m not sure if this could be a game changer, but one thing is that the price is going to blow the minds of people in this smartphone world full of thousand-dollar flagships. I do think that this price to performance would likely not be seen on US markets and the like, or perhaps not in a foreseeable future.
But in the end, this phone is still China exclusive
> still held back by MIUI
In what way? I have the K30 Pro and like Miui. Also liked it when I had the Mi 5 and think I put it on an old Samsung once.
It is already shipping internationally. Check out Giztop where it costs $100 more than China price (I presume it is import duty). Most of the EU, Africa, and Asia frequency bands are supported, so you can say that it is a phone unofficially released for the world except the US. Even so, some US bands are also supported to keep it at least functional.
Google Services can be activated though. It requires seconds to setup.
This phone is being shipped worldwide with a $100+ import duty surcharge as it supports almost all of Asia, Europe, Africa, South America frequency bands. Even then it is much cheaper.

Yes but not google pay
Look on giztop
>The Covid-19 ban on Chinese phones can change the scenario though.
can you explain this
International phones need the ability to make banking apps and apps that depends on safetynet works. It won’t even pass safetynet since there is no google certification.
Lmao bro, it’s $1000. It’s not a flagship killer, it’s just a flagship.
> I think tech should rightfully become more expensive over time as they get more powerful.
This is why you paid 20,000 USD for your computer I assume?
😆
I’m looking to upgrade from the samsung galaxy s7 phone to a Xiaomi phone. Should I get this phone?
It totally kills another flagship which is priced much higher
When one says flagship killer, it does not mean midrange, it’s price is low enough to kill another phone which is priced higher in the terms of performance
Simple as that
I freaking hate mediatek
They don’t open source their code and thus custom roms are impossible (atleast difficult)
I will blindly buy a Snapdragon over a mediatek without looking at other aspects such as a camera, battery and other shit
The word ‘Mediatek’ is a big con in my dictionary and similarly ‘ Snapdragon’ is the must have pro in my dictionary
It’s true, but with a higher implementation there’s hope that they will start opening up… Let’s just hope they do that!
A transparent shill.
Mediatek offers great performance and they can truly compete with Snapdragon.
I also hope they open up and become developer friendly
Maybe the

Essentially the US was able to ban TSMC from supplying Huawei with chips (in addition to ban Huawei from using US technology like android).
Although I have no clue how this would be a “covid19 ban to Chinese phones”.
One Guy in this thread mentioned that banking apps can’t be used if the safety net is not present. Also, check if the frequency bands of your country are supported. Ensure that you get warranty support from the reseller.
It has nothing to do and only affects Huawei Kirin devices
I am not a shill. I came to know about this product a few days back. I am genuinely amazed at the technological advancements this product provides at a sub flagship price and hence wanted to share the same with others. Personally, I think Samsung and Apple charge way higher than the actual cost due to their monopoly and that is the point I want to put across.
If you have a genuine opinion about the product, please do share.
It’s about $ 700 IIRC.
A person praising Xiaomi on /r/Xiaomi? Oh yeah, must be a shill.
Technically not a flagship killer, due to the availability and price when it actually sold internationally. But it can be called no-dollar-wasted flagship if it priced at $1,000 or slightly lower.
A promisable flagship killer would be their Redmi K30 Ultra. Sure you might say Dimensity 1000+ is not contender with SD865 but still, why fight over that extra 20% performance when you get a phone priced lower than $500?
I’m buying that shit the second there’s a sale
Can you tell me which other flagship a $1000 ‘flagship killer’ kills?
It refers to this: [https://www.siasat.com/china-made-mobile-phones-may-be-banned-in-india-as-they-rule-market-1916836/](https://www.siasat.com/china-made-mobile-phones-may-be-banned-in-india-as-they-rule-market-1916836/)
Currently, the word is going around in SE Asian countries like India which says that not only Chinese apps, but all their products need to be banned. It has created a mindset amongst a sect of people who are refraining from buying Chinese phones. It has led to a surge in sales of phones like the Galaxy M31S.
It is not official though.
Someone calling a $1000 ‘flagship killer’ and how this destroys all other flagships, with no global availability, lackluster long term software support, average camera performance for the price and roughly similar specs to other $1000 phones…
wATch OuT ApPLe iS AbOUt 2 b deSTrOyEd!
Someone calling a $1000 ‘flagship killer’ and how this destroys all other flagships, with no global availability, lackluster long term software support, average camera performance for the price and roughly similar specs to other $1000 phones…

I had Pixel 3 and it the worst phone I ever had
Hi, I just tried it on my ultra and it passed the ‘Safetynet attest’ app and the ‘SafetyNet test’ apps.
I have the Ultra and SafetyNet is present.
it’s 760usd ffs
Some corrections:
1. Except for US (due to incompatible frequency bands), it is available with warranty and Google services in other continents. Just search for it online.
2. Mi provides similar support to other android manufacturers which is a minimum of 2 years. I agree though, it can’t compete with Apple in that regard.
3. Check the dxomark video. It has the best camera to date, much better than Apple ones.
4. It has an overclocked 865 which performs similar to the 865+, state of the art RAM, and UFS storage. Its USP lies in the much faster wired and wireless charging. Wireless charging is even faster than Apple’s wired fast charge.
5. Also, I like the notch-less hole-punch display of this phone.
Apple won’t be affected at all since it has a loyal fanbase comfortable in its closed ecosystem.
Lol.
At $1000 for a non-waterproof phone , this thing is not killing anything.
So to say that it delivers more of literally everything is one of the dumbest comments on Reddit.
It’s also only usb2.0 and doesn’t have that large a battery
It might be the best camera phone around, but I’d take an ip68 flagship (if not paying , as I don’t want to spend $1000) over this as my daily driver.
India is not SE Asia it is S Asia
It all starts from India. ‘-)
Did you install Xiaomi.eu rom?
Mi 10 Ultra is the best phone for its price!

Lmao
The base variant is $750 and the top variant costs $1000. This is not including $100+ import duty when shipping worldwide.
He may be comparing with $1500 flagships.
Nope, I’m still on the Chinese version.
Any flagship. Even those around $1500 and up.
You can’t be a flagship killer with the flagship price.
Yeah but what do we get from it shipping internationally when it can’t work on European networks without the missing bands?
Priced at around 1000$ it’s not a flagship killer anymore. It’s a flagship.
Can you name one of these?
1. Ignore the US, most xiaomi phones aren’t compatible there so it’s understandable
2. Long term 2 years update has always been a problem, especially with new Samsung 3 year update policy change
3. Dxomark is more and more irrelevant there’s a reason nobody refers to dxomark in more phone’s camera comparisons.
4. 865, wether over locked or 865+, is to be expected from a $1000 phone.
‘State of the art RAM’, please explain this in more details.
Sure the charging speed is phenomenal, but good luck with your battery life in a year from now when you phone can only have 4 hours of screen on time. What are you going to do then? Go to Xiaomi’s warranty replacement? Good luck with support, I have experienced abysmal support from the in my experience from the UK redmi note 9. In other words hardware warranty is no where near a ‘flagship’ experience especially compared to hassle free nature of Samsung/apple.
5. It has punch hole camera, typical phones in this price range, can you please tell me why this particular ‘notch-less’ hole is better than others in this price range?
OP 8 Pro, Galaxy S20 Ultra
Note 20 ultra and iphone 11 pro top models cost $1400-$1500 though.
And iphone 11 pro
It works though. I have seen videos on YT.
Is 370$ K30 Ultra a joke to you?
I’m not going to pretend like I’m technologically savvy enough to know why. I havent done anything except for update the google play store (it comes pre-installed btw). I downloaded the safetynet testing apps just to see if theyd fail. They did not.
Sorry I’m not paying more than $1000 for any Android as they would not get so much support years or SO versions. Anyways good phone!
Because shill… Hahahahhaha
Here on Peru is more expensive than the iPhone 11 Pro Max
Only stupid people will buy this phone for 1k usd. It is meant for Chinese market it is their flagship killer in China. Phones there are more expensive than US market, pricing it several hundred dollars below US price gives them the right to call it flagship killer.
No. K30 Ultra is a good phone in its segment. But when it comes to flagship competition; its CPU, GPU, power efficiency, battery charging speed, wireless charging, camera, display brightness doesn’t come close.
That’s not the point of this post. It is just that branded flagships are crazily overpriced as compared to what they actually offer.
Today mid rangers are way too powerful for normal usage. Average people shouldn’t go beyond $400.
The iPhone 11 Pro The same and has 5/6 years of support better SOC and competitive specs.
Do you know any other online shop that could be shipping the MI 10 ultra?
Well for my network band 20 is important and its nonexistent. Idk how it should work then?
Nope, the new bionic Chip kills every other mobile tech on the market, it’s much more powerful, next lvl shit – not a Apple fan myself, this however is a fact and that’s why iPhone can’t be listed there in my opinion…
Like you miss out a third of raw computing power with every other device, of course you could argue about the real life benefits as most people don’t use their devices to it’s full extent on the performance side of things, tech got so far already that it’s usually only for the spec sheet rather than real usability…
Oneplus 8 pro = $900
In other words you are comparing a mi 10 ultra to a $100 cheaper phone…
Galaxy S20 ultra
– better software support due to 3 years update promise by Samsung recently
– 5000mah battery, larger than Xiaomi’s 4500mah
– IP68 water resistant
– higher resolution screen (option)
– global availability
– good Samsung’s warranty support
I would forgive you if you say “S20 is a lot more expensive phone than Xiaomi’s mi10 ultra”, but the problem is that last price before it went out of stock it was US$999.99, in other words the same price category as Xiaomi’s mi 10 ultra.
So in other words Mi 10 ultra killed a phone cheaper than itself and killed another one roughly in the same price category as itself…
Now you will say “oh in this country this phone is more expensive/cheaper”? The point is that a ‘flagship killer’ is being compared to a cheaper phone than itself and roughly similar to other flagships phones in this price range…
NOTE 20 ULTRA
Mi 10 ultra defeats the Exynos version
>real life benefits
I’ve been using the same phone since 2016 and it hasn’t slowed down one bit. I’ve been planing on keeping my 7+ for another two years, at least.
The problem is that most people don’t consider the long term benefits.
This. My Mi AW was $340 and was just as good in my eyes as the flagships that came out at the time. The Mi 10 Ultra is $700+. Great phone at a great price, but not flagship killer price imo
Really, you are competing with Apple’s warranty and it’s long term software support not to mention iPhone has much faster CPU according to benchmarks???
In what aspect does mi 10 ultra ‘kills’ iPhone 11 pro apart from price?
Yh you are correct, while it defeats the exynos version, it does it defeat it in any other category? The point I m making they are roughly the same, this is no flagship killer, it’s more similar to a flagship in all ways including price, we can go on and on nitpicking small differences but does that justify Mi10 ultra being treated as some sort of a ‘flagship killer’ when it’s mostly just the same as phones in this price category?
In what regards does this phone make the note 20 ultra a ‘dead’ irrelevant phone?
The specs?
The long term software support?
Camera?
Global availability?
S pen?
Excellent warranty coverage including extended warranty from Samsung?
Any other feature which is so so crucial that you consider mi 10 ultra to have ‘killed’ the note 20 ultra?
Can you name any other phone that is now ‘killed’ by mi 10 ultra aswell?
Correct, if you don’t include import duties
I agree, but I have no idea who people are not in touch with reality anymore when they call a flagship a ‘flagship killer’ without acknowledging warranty, long term software support or international availability…
yeah it’s a Chinese-only halo product. Not a flagship in any sense.
Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra & Iphone 11 Pro are clear flagships available pretty much everywhere on earth and commanding a high price.
The 小米10至尊纪念版 (Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition) is not yet even attempting to be their flagship, which remains the Mi 10 Pro, as it’s essentially a special edition for rich fanboys who want a prototype.
You’re being facetious and everyone’s just eating it up.
Curved screen though. Such a shame.
Imagine being a rich guy then going for Xiaomi…
It has curved screen.. I really wonder how can you guys put up with that?
Exactly. I am using an interim Samsung S10. It’s TERRIBLE.
Well, my experience with Android doesn’t say so. It runs for minimum 3 years (and can be used for around 5 years if lucky). I am using mi a1 for 3 years and it is running perfectly fine. I am considering buying new phone in the near future not because my old phone is bad but because I just want to buy a new phone and have money left to spare.
One of my family members is using OnePlus 5 since 2017 it’s working fine. Another friend of mine was using Redmi note from 2014 which died two months ago.
In Android phones, most of the time battery capacity depletes overtime. That’s why I buy phones which can last at least 1.5 days when new so that it doesn’t bother me later on. Also you get 3 years of security updates minimum.
Regarding the system slowdown overtime, it was a complaint against Samsung mid range phones which they have fixed since.
**The main point is about choosing between a $1000 high status phone which will last 5-7 years vs a $300 phone which will last at least 3-5 years.**
*I haven’t used an Android flagship personally, so can’t comment on its durability. But OnePlus 5 is definitely a durable phone. It still feels like new. Also I hear people still using Pixel phones still which were released back in 2016.*
Tradingshenzhen claims to have it, I haven’t verified it though.
I have to disagree with the software support and camera.
Even budget $200 phones get 2 years of support, for a $1000…
Actually, feel free to disagree, its your opinion and more importantly your money
Yeah – you’ve convinced me.
Which 200 dollar phone gets two years support?
I mean Poco had same internals as flagships at the expense of the camera and build materials and screen.
Performance wise it was a flagship killer, something most of phone users care the most about.
Cameras were decent for an average user and build materials in general are something most people don’t care about.
I have few very expensive phones on hand, but my daily driver is Redmi Note 9 Pro, all the expensive ones I gave to family members, including Iphone XR.
I see no reason to use something like Galaxy 20 Ultra when this Redmi is fast, has an ok camera, big screen that gives nice picture all games and apps work, emulators work great and I got it for free at my carrier.
Most redmi note series phones get roughly 2 years of updates if note 2 Android version updates (e.g. redmi note 5).
If they don’t get Android update they still get many features of new Android version with their MIUI update.
Having 2 years software support on a ‘flagship killer’ is nothing to boast about.
Well they only get one major update.
Xiaomi does support for several years though via miui.
Glad Samsung has finally made it 3 years if major Android updates. And it should arguably be more. It’s stupid to have only 2 years of support on an extremely capable hardware.
Could be worse.
Cough cough *exynos* cough cough (that’s a lot of coughing for someone who doesn’t have covid)
I know I’m a month late but I’d also like to add for the record that miui 12 is pretty damn good. I haven’t been a fan of xiaomi’s UI for years but miui12 absolutely threw me for a loop. I actually prefer it over CPL (custom pixel launcher) it’s fun, animated and fast 🤷♂️
