Haven't had the chance to try both modes, but I went with average since I personally want to avoid overexposed backgrounds on harsh lighting, even at the cost of a bit darker faces. But I usually tend to manually adjust exposure most of the times (when possible)

I think it is a Google issue. I was having the same problem on my S23U after One UI7 last week. I deleted and reinstalled the Google widget and it seems ok now. This was also happening to my Pixel 7 Pro recently as well. No issues with my 15U.
